As I’m writing this afternoon, the snow is gently falling over Enid and Willow View Church. It is beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing.
I like snow, but last Sunday morning we had more ice than snow! I arrived at the church at 6:15 a.m. without much trouble but by 7:15, when Tom and Diane arrived with the donuts, my car and the parking lot had a glaze of ice on them. I made the difficult decision to cancel Sunday worship services in the interest of your safety. I did it most reluctantly, especially since it was the first Sunday of the new year.
When severe weather comes in on a Sunday morning, it’s exceedingly difficult to prepare. I informed our staff, adult Discipleship Community leaders, children’s ministry, etc. by text of the closing and sent notice to the local television stations. Our Administrative Assistant Emily Moody put it on Facebook for us, too, via her phone. I apologize to those who didn’t get word and showed up for worship. We plan to all be there this Sunday! (We did offer a donut or two or a box to those who came!) My philosophy is this: If it’s snow, “it’s a go!” If it’s ice, “no dice!” As always, use your best judgement about your own safety.
I’m excited about this Sunday for a couple reasons. First of all, my sermon is prepared and will be “Epiphany 2.0 – Wise Men Still Seek Him” and it is “Sunday to Serve” sponsored by our Missions Team led by Debbie Hodges. Stamp out Starvation will be here to assemble pre-packaged meals during the Sunday School hour, and you’ll be able to make crafts for residents at The Commons and notes of encouragement for others. Ron Todd will share at Baptist Village, and I will serve communion there, too. We will also be serving Holy Communion in both of our services this Sunday.
ALPHA is coming to Willow View on Jan. 22, 2025. Scott and I prepared a short video yesterday about this amazing opportunity. Check it out on our Facebook page if you haven’t already and sign up this Sunday.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. I haven’t seen most of you all year!
Love you!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Mark
