Is It That Time Already?

By Pastor Mark McAdow
Yes! The season of Lent is here. It begins this Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with Ash Wednesday worship in our sanctuary at 6 p.m. for the entire family.

Lent means “springtime,” and it has felt like it this week. Lent is a time of heartfelt preparation to remember and celebrate the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is marked by Christ’s sacrifice for us and our sacrifice for Him. It’s a time to give something up or add a new spiritual discipline to your life.

The Lenten Season is 40 days long, not including Sundays, and begins with Ash Wednesday and continues through Easter Sunday morning. The Tuesday before is “Fat Tuesday,” also called Mardi Gras. Traditionally, it’s the day Christian people had a party to eat all the fats and sweets in their home, prior to beginning a Lenten fast.

Be sure to pick up your free Lenten daily devotional this Sunday. We purchased them from our sister Global Methodist Church in South OKC which is also focusing on the parables of Jesus during this season. Our new “connection” is at work.

This Wednesday evening, we will have our Ash Wednesday worship service in the sanctuary from 6 to 6:30 p.m. (There will not be a meal prior to the service this week). We will sing songs of our faith, hear a brief devotional, and receive the sign of the cross on our forehead using the ashes from last year’s Palm Sunday worship service. Pastor Scott and I will “mark” each of you. Good news! We just found last year’s ashes! With all of us in temporary offices in the Family Life Center, most everything is in boxes!

Following the Ash Wednesday service, we will host an “Abbreviated Alpha Class” from 6:35 to 7:30 p.m. We’ll hear a talk from Nicky Gumble in London and meet quickly in our small groups. There will not be Roots to Wings next Wed. night, but children of parents participating in Alpha will be cared for by Miss Mandie, Lynn Merz, and others. The Alpha overnight retreat is coming March 28-29 at the beautiful Camp Canyon for Adults and Youth.

Looking forward to worshipping our Lord Jesus with you this Sunday. Also, we have our Willow View Men’s Breakfast this Saturday, March 1 ,at 8 a.m. in our Family Life Center.  Kyle Williams will be our guest speaker. Men, hope to see you here!

Yours in Christ’s love,
Pastor Mark

PS: My friend, Dr. Darrell Cates, will be with us this Sunday afternoon for a wills and trusts seminar. Info only. Come ask your questions about wills and trusts.
