It's Official - Summer is Here

By Pastor Mark McAdow
Today is the summer solstice. The “longest” day of the year- the most daylight. You should be able to get a lot done today! I sure hope I do! That’s one blessing of the summer, “extra” daylight to accomplish more tasks outdoors or maybe more time to relax outdoors- if the heat and mosquitos don’t get to you! Summer is here!

Summer means vacations for some of us and of course Vacation Bible School! We’re trying something new this year with VBS in the evenings beginning next Monday June 24-Thursday June 27 from 6:00PM- 8:15PM. Be sure to sign up online today at https://vbspro.events/p/bf3e64 The theme is Scuba led by Zoe Walker, our Summer Children’s Intern, and Roxi Hein and Meghan Taylor with lots of gifted volunteers helping teach, lead music, play games, provide snacks, and do whatever is needed! Be sure to be in prayer for this potentially life-changing week for our kids and grandkids too!

Last Sunday we honored our fathers and provided an extra “Payday” for each one present! I also continued our tradition of inviting dads to the altar for a special prayer- always a very moving moment in Worship. My message was “Dads: Blessed to be a Blessing.”  We are blessed by our kids and we’re to be a blessing to them! Psalm 127:3 reminds us that children are a blessing from the Lord! I was blessed to have our son Matt and our grandson Julian in Worship with us for our first Father’s Day together. I also got a favorite lunch- spaghetti and meatballs – prepared by my young bride! If you missed last Sunday, I’d encourage you to watch the service online on Facebook searching for Willow View Church. I had a lot to share about Dads and parenting.

This Sunday I want to follow-up with some thoughts on one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible. It is Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.”  This scripture has challenged a lot of Christian parents, given them hope and created some real tension as well. I want to focus on it as I continue to address issues of parenting and grandparenting as Christian believers!

When Penny Landeros, our Financial Secretary, sent me the giving report for last Sunday her comment was “It’s Summertime!” Please remember to give faithfully throughout the summer- our expenses and ministries increase in the summer. Thanks so much for your faithfulness as the Willow View Family! Love you!

Yours in Christ
Pastor Mark
