Today is The Day! America’s 248th birthday! Happy Birthday America! As you and I celebrate our Independence as a nation, I challenge you to celebrate your dependence on our Heavenly Father and our interdependence within the Willow View family. We were created to be in a life-giving relationship with Jesus and one another. The Christian life is about genuine community. We need the Lord and each other.
However you celebrate this day -- alone or with others -- remember how blessed we are. The Bible says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people” -Proverbs 14:34. It was President Ronald Reagan who said, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” He also said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” He was right.
As we celebrate our freedom as Americans; let’s remind the next generation of the blessings we share and the cost that was paid by faithful men and women for our freedom. It is true in our spiritual lives as well. Our freedom is Christ has multiple blessings and came at an extravagant cost- the blood of Jesus Christ. We’re blessed to be a blessing!
Have a Happy and safe Fourth of July holiday. We’ll look forward to a special Sunday this week! We’ll be celebrating Holy Communion and we’re anticipating two baptisms and two new members, too! I expect some of my favorite people to be there!
