Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Advent, too! These two wonderful seasons are converging this weekend. I trust you will be enjoying this day of thanksgiving with family or friends.
For the first time in a while, Robin and I will be in Tulsa celebrating Thanksgiving with my only sibling, Valerie, and her two children and her six grandchildren. With all our kids now married, we must share them with their spouses’ parents. With even positive change often comes new challenges. The good news? We don’t have to cook as much or clean our house. The bad news? Fewer leftovers for later.
Didn’t we have an enjoyable time of blended worship last Sunday? It was so nice to all be together in one service and to share in a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner, too. Special “Thanks” to Evelyn and her amazing Congregational Care Team and all others who helped set up, cook and clean up, too. Jessica Walker’s Worship Team and all those who were able to stay and decorate the church for Advent also did an amazing job. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here.
Advent begins this Sunday, Dec. 1, with Holy Communion and our special Blue Christmas worship service to honor those who have passed in recent years. This special bi-annual Celebration of Life is at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the sanctuary. Come and bring the name of your loved one you would like us to remember.
Thanks to all of you who have already completed your financial commitment card to Willow View for 2025. Your faith and trust in the Lord’s gracious provision is most encouraging. If you are yet to turn in your commitment card, we’d love to hear from you in the next few weeks. Thanks!
Keep your eyes on the Family Life Center this next month. The Trustees have selected new flooring that will be installed before Christmas. Out with the old; in with the new! "See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way…” (Isaiah 43:19). The Lord always makes a way. Jesus is The Way.
Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday as I begin a new Advent sermon series – The Chosen Christmas – using scenes from "The Chosen" during my message. “Something New @ Willow View!”
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving and Advent weekend!
Yours in Christ’s love,
Pastor Mark
