- As a United Methodist Church we don't believe
that we have any exclusive doctrines or beliefs. We have no
affirmations or beliefs that conflict with most other Christian groups.
However United Methodists do claim some of the following emphases in
matters of faith and belief:
- We believe in the primacy of Holy Scripture,
and that we attempt to grasp its meaning through an understanding of
tradition, our personal experience, and through our ability to reason
and think.
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the unique
Savior and eternal Son. We believe that Jesus is both fully human
and fully divine, that through His death on the cross we are offered
the gift of forgiveness and eternal life, and through his bodily
resurrection we are offered a new life, full of grace and love.
- We believe that God's grace is available and sufficient for all and we lead with grace.
- We believe in the essential unity of our faith and our works as being vital to our spiritual lives.
- We believe that our salvation is both personal and social in nature.
- We believe in seeking a holiness of heart as well as a faithful living expression of our lives.
- We believe that we share a cooperative ministry
with our communites as well as the world and that we work through a
system of connectionalism with other people of faith.
- We believe that there needs to be a direct link between what we believe and how we live and act in the world.
- We believe that Baptism ushers us into the
Christian community, that it can be practiced by several different
methods, but that it only needs to occur only once in a person's
lifetime. There is no need to be re-baptized. We do offer
many opportunites for people to re-commit their lives however.
- We believe that Holy Communion should be
available to all who want to participate and so we practice an
"open-table" approach.
- We believe that as children of God our hearts our minds and our doors need to be open to everyone around us.
- We believe that when a person wishes to join
our church they need to be ready to faithfully participate in its
ministries by their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and their
witness of faith in the world.
Purpose Statement
Share
We share the message and story of Jesus. We share the message of Jesus:
that God loves all people and desires for us to respond to God’s love
with faith and love. We share the story of Jesus’ teachings, life,
death, and resurrection.
We
also share God’s blessings with others. We generously share our wealth,
possessions, and blessings with those in need. We strive to help to
feed the hungry, mend the broken hearted, and strengthen the poor in
spirit.
Disciple We make and become more faithful
disciples. We make disciples by mentoring and guiding others in their
journeys with God. We offer learning, faith-inspiring, and growing
opportunities.
We strive to become more faithful
disciples by attending worship, Sunday school, Bible studies, and other
faith-building opportunities. We commit ourselves to the personal
spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, praying, and worshipping.
Serve
We serve our church and others in the name of Jesus Christ. We serve
our Willow View United Methodist Church by being active in servant
ministries and volunteering at Willow View. We take on tasks and duties
that others do not want all for the sake of God’s Kingdom.
We
serve others by being active in local, state, and national civic clubs
and organizations and by doing the work of ministry. We understand that
we are God’s feet, hands, and voice in our world.
Mission Statement
As
believers in Christ, we are called to be in mission. The mission of
Willow View United Methodist Church is to make and equip disciples by
extending the friendly welcome of Christ and then providing various
groups that nurture faith, friendship, support, learning, and
participation. This empowers the person to represent Christ in the
world, thus, bringing the Kingdom of God to completion.
Through
the love of Christ, Willow View accepts individuals whatever their
condition in life. Our church’s ultimate goal is to bring each person
to abundant life, to build up the Body of Christ by enabling all
Christians to become like Jesus in terms of character and servant
ministry. Our church is the channel of God’s grace, which births and
strengthens our relationships with our Lord and each other.
